Room No. 1: MetaBirkin case, Adidas council, Puma's PFP, conferences, utilities and free ♥ mint
5 stories to know this week in fashion x web3
Happy Monday!
Let's kick off this week with five fresh updates and interesting discussions. Here's what I've got for you today 👇
💬 First up, MetaBirkin’s verdict has been all over the news lately and it's a topic that's on everyone's minds. The short version?
Hermès and artist Mason Rothschild were at legal blows over the MetaBirkin NFT, which violated Hermès' trademark. The jury ruled in favor of Hermès. It's sparked one heck of a debate between folks: should brands be able to protect their IP or will this stomp out any chance of artistry? Well, Nike and StockX are also in court over using imagery of Nike shoes for Vault NFTs. In January 2023, Nike won a round in the lawsuit, but the case is still ongoing.
What does this mean? All creators need to stay on top of IP laws when creating for digital platforms. If you don't want trouble with the law, take extra-special care when making money off your ideas. At the same time, it’s the first NFT-related trademark case, and it proves the legitimacy of NFTs in the eyes of brands, artists, and consumers.
💬 Adidas is about to shake things up with their new /// council. 15 lucky ITM NFT holders, elected by both ITM holders and the /// studio, will get to have a say in all the big decisions that impact the brand. This is an opportunity to make history and be a part of something big 💥

💬 Puma is also making waves with their latest release of their PFP (profile picture) NFT collection called Super PUMA, based on a comic from the 70s. The NFTs reflect PUMA's history in sports and culture and come with an original storyline. There are 10,000 Super PUMA NFTs available, with 4,000 being airdropped to Nitro Collection holders, 2,000 for the 10KTF community, and 4,000 for public sale through waiting list spots. Follow PUMA's Twitter for more.
💬 I've come across an interesting discussion on Linkedin about the cost of speaking at events. Paris Blockchain Week has recently come under fire for asking a speaker for 13,000 EUROS to talk on a panel.
Like, it's sad that these events are becoming cash grabs. Smaller events might not have the same hype, but they're way more real and have a better community vibe. In my opinion, spending this much money on an event is a waste.
💬 My startup discovery of the week is Tropee – where communities do more with their NFTs.
Website: https://tropee.com/
Product: Tropee is the only platform you need to create exceptional post-mint experiences. Connect your wallet and start building utilities in seconds.
For example, NFT Paris nailed this with special offers for some NFT holder communities.

💝 Bonus: DRESSX is giving away free LoveVision NFT glasses. It's a chance to add a unique digital accessory item to your NFT collection. The mint is open until February 15th.
